About Us
John Shurtz John Shurtz, President of GREEN BUILDERS OF MARIN, has been a building professional for over thirty years, and serves as a green building consultant to developers, architects, businesses and homeowners.
John helped develop Build It Green’s “Home
Remodeling Green Building Guidelines”, and the “Certified Green Building
Professional” class.
John is a certified
Green Point Rater.
He is a founding Board Member of the USGBC-
Redwood Empire Chapter, a founding member of the Environmental Education
Council of Marin.
John is the Lead Instructor for
Sonoma State
University Green Building Professional Certificate Program.
He has taught for the Solar Living
Institute, is multilingual, and has spoken and taught at Build It Green
trainings, BIONEERS, and at dozens of other cities and organizations.
John Shurtz has received awards for sustainable
business and building practices and community involvement, from Governor
Arnold Schwarzenegger, Senator Carole Migden, Assemblyman Jared Huffman,
and Congressman Mike Thompson.
John is an environmental activist and has
worked with such organizations as Rainforest Action Network, Forest
Ethics,
